A recent foray of Indo Rama is into
the highly exciting power generation sector. Indo Rama
has an installed capacity of 82.5 MW which comprises
52.5 MW (3x13.5 MW + 3x4 MW) of diesel generating (DG)
sets and 40 MW of co-gen captive facility based on coal,
giving 30 MW electricity. The 40 MW coal-based cogeneration
power plant at Butirbori, set up at a cost of Rs. 128
crore, produces 30 MW of electrical power, 58 ton per
hour (tpd) process steam and 10 cubic metres per hour
(m3h) of process de-mineralised (DM) water. While the
power is used for the entire manufacturing process,
the steam generated from the co-generation unit is used
for 'draw line' in the manufacturing PSF, and also for
the polycondensation process while making polymer melt.
The Company's combined power generation capabilities
are integrated into a common power supply pool, from
which required amount of power is fed for internal use
and the surplus is sold to external agencies. Indo Rama
has a net surplus generation capacity of approximately
42 MW. Indo Rama's power evacuation facility has also
been recently enhanced from 25 MVA to 50 MVA. To best
utilize this excess capacity and generate income, the
Company has been selling power to Tata Power Trading
Company Limited, TPTCL, JSW, Adani and Maharashtra State
Electricity Board.
The coal linkages for the plant have been secured from
Coal India Limited and thus coal comes from nearby coal
fields at Ukani, Kolar Pimpari, Pimpalgaon, Durwasa
etc, and also from e-auction supplies from Coal India
Limited. In the power business, the Company is well
on track towards further increasing its revenues and
profits with plans to set up a 30 MW coal-based plant
with existing coal-linkages. The Company has already
applied for higher coal linkages, which, if approved,
would substantially aid the growth of its business in
this segment.
The power situation in India is one where demand exceeds
supply and shortages are as high as 16.6%. This provides
a massive growth opportunity for the Company in the
power business. Considering the exponential growth in
demand for energy in the country, the Company aims to
establish itself as a force to be reckoned with in the
energy sector in the times to come.
