Notwithstanding its growing focus on
business expansion and profitability, Indo Rama has
never lost sight of its responsibility to the community
at large. As a responsible corporate citizen, the Company
constantly endeavours to balance its business objectives
with the overall good of the society through wide ranging
socio-economic programmes.
In line with its committed focus on Corporate Social
Responsibility, the Company has been consistently following
and implementing programmes and policies geared towards
a better work place, a better environment and a better
society.
Energy Conservation
Its unwavering focus on effective energy utilization
inspired Indo Rama to lay down a detailed Energy Policy
in 2005. The Company has since been following the policy
in letter and in spirit, continuously engaging itself
in concerted efforts to improve its energy performance
and efficiency. As many as 13 major energy saving projects
were implemented by the Company during 2008-09, resulting
in total savings of around Rs. 164.00 lakhs.
Water Conservation
The importance of water conservation in national and
global growth and development needs no elaboration.
Realizing the criticality of this issue, the Company
has embarked on a series of initiatives aimed at water
conservation through focus on the '5R Concept' -- Reduction
at source, Reuse, Recycling, Recovery and Rethinking
alternative and improved solutions
The Company has successfully reduced its specific water
consumption by about 24.5% over the last four years.
Its main areas of focus in water conservation are continual
vigilance and monitoring at the source, maximum possible
recycling of process / steam condensate, cooling tower
water treatment optimization to operate with high cycle
of concentration, controlling use, and regular monitoring
at all consumption points.
Effluents from the production process are treated and
recycled to achieve 'zero discharge pollution'. Indo
Rama has adopted measures to continuously increase usage
of recycled water. The Company also conducts various
water conservation awareness programmes, through local
industry associations, targeting neighbouring communities.
Education
Realizing the importance of education in building a
better and strong community and nation, Indo Rama has
redoubled its efforts in this area over the past few
years.
In a major Public Private Partnership (PPP) initiative
in the field of education, the Company has signed a
Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Directorate
of Vocational Education and Training, Maharashtra Government,
for upgradation of ITI Nagpur and ITI Butibori.
Further, the Company has constituted Institute Management
Committees for each ITI, comprising members from industry.
This committee works on different aspects of ITI upgradation,
such as recommending changes in syllabus as per emerging
requirements; suggesting new trades as per industry
requirement; arranging training for students and faculty
in emerging technological developments; beautification
of campus and development of institute and arranging
seminars, workshops and exhibitions for students and
teachers.
The CBSE-affiliated Ira International School, run by
Ira Education Society, has been serving the community
in the field of education for the last 16 years. The
school provides education to children of employees and
nearby villages. Nearly 1200 students from Class 1 to
12 are enrolled in the school, which has excellent facilities
and ambience for the overall development of the children.
Healthcare
The health of its employees and the people in the community
at large is a key area of concern for the Company, which
has been actively engaged in several healthcare initiatives
in coordination with local government bodies and NGOs
in and around the plant at Nagpur. Free health check
up and eye camps are regularly organized with the help
of reputed doctors from Nagpur, benefiting a large number
of its employees and local community members. As an
ongoing initiative, the Company provides regular support
to the local government administration in the Pulse
Polio Immunization programme.
