The Indo Rama Group has a strong presence in Indonesia,
Thailand, USA, Nepal and Sri Lanka, besides India. It has
focussed business activities in the field of Textiles, Polyesters
and Industrial Chemicals.
Born on 26th May 1949, Mr. Lohia, after completing his
graduation from Calcutta University, joined the family business
of Textiles and got the best of management exposure in all
disciplines of Business Management.
He distinguished himself with remarkable vision and outstanding
leadership abilities demonstrated by the insight of choosing
Polyester over Viscose, in the mid 1980's, when the
latter offered better margins than Polyester. Mr. Lohia
clearly envisaged that the eventual crumbling of the high
tariff barriers would ultimately make Polyester the "fabric
of the masses'. This was accompanied by his precognition
that future success was based on cost-competitiveness from
scale economies and raising entry barriers. Hence, while
others set up medium sized manufacturing units, Mr. Lohia
decided to put up a 250,000 tonnes per annum polyester complex.
His utmost perseverance is displayed in his certitude and
conviction in the future of polyester business, especially
during the trying times of the Asian currency crisis. His
revolutionary outlook is characterized by his eagerness
to experiment with new ideas in modern management practices
and advances in technology.
Amongst several affiliations and associations, as the Chairman
of the FICCI Task Force on Textiles, he has sterling qualities
to conduire the textile industry to a more competitive and
organized scenario. He is regarded and recognized as a thought
leader because of his business acumen and prescience of
the global trends and, the understanding of macro economics
in the world markets.
Ingenious, principled and positively practical/ meticulous,
Mr. Lohia always extends active support to the cause of
Community Development, Education, Sports, etc. The family
has promoted Schools overseas and in India - in their native
place in Rajasthan and also a School up to Higher Secondary
level near Nagpur in Maharashtra.
